Jaryba SmartSuspend is a Linux based cluster workload management solution that enables priority based job suspension. Suspension releases system resources including memory, CPU, and floating software licenses making them immediately available for higher priority jobs. SmartSuspend works with any serial or parallel application and without any modification to the underlying operating system.
SmartSuspend improves utilization of grid resources by allowing lower priority jobs to be suspended freeing their resources for use by higher priority jobs. To achieve the same business driven Quality of Service without SmartSuspend would require lower priority jobs to be terminated and waste the resources consumed until the time of termination.
Software licenses can be a significant portion of a grid's cost. Keeping licenses in reserve for high priority work means that they often remain unused and wastes money. SmartSuspend ensures that all software licenses are fully utilized by releasing them during a suspend operation making them immediately available for the next scheduled job.
SmartSuspend seamlessly integrates with most resource managers such as LSF, Oracle Grid Engine, and PBS Pro. Both serial and parallel applications are supported with Intel MPI, Platform MPI (HP-MPI), Scali MPI, OpenMPI, and MPICH stacks.
